Photos: City Life, Manchester

Repetition and Patterns. There are many articles on how to use these two criteria in your photography. Sometimes repetitive patterns are pleasing to the eyes. There is an alternate approach. Photograph a break in the repeated pattern. You will find many online examples of these techniques. I was strolling along the Bridgewater canal in Manchester with a group of photography enthusiasts when I got an opportunity to photograph a repetitive pattern.

Along the canal, there are several highrises. When you are walking for photos, you are looking everywhere - up-down and left-right. It was a sunny day; perfect for a photo walk. When I looked at one of the high-rises, I could see bicycles on the balconies. These bicycles were the repetitive pattern. These bikes also show how the residents are conscious of the environment and even health.
